It’s the first day of spring and the best flying weather of the year is right around the corner. Time for pilots to check their calendars and pencil in some aviation events.
Next week’s Sun ‘n Fun Fly-In in Lakeland, Florida kicks off a busy season of pancake breakfasts, cook-outs, camp-outs, and airshows all around the country.
Here are six calendars that will help pilots find aviation events in Wisconsin and neighboring states:
- EAA Calendar of Events
- AOPA Calendar of Events
- Wisconsin Fly-Ins and Air Shows
- Michigan Aviation Events
- Minnesota Fly-Ins, Events, & Safety Seminars
- Iowa Aviation Calendar
(Illinois should be number 7, but its DOT doesn’t have an updated calendar website.)
Looking at these calendars, pilots should find no shortage of things to do this summer. The can’t-miss “biggie” — EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh — is July 23rd through 29th.
Austin Straubel International Airport in Green Bay (GRB) serves as a convenient alternate airport to Oshkosh during EAA AirVenture. Jet Air Group welcomes EAA visitors, providing FBO services including aircraft fuel, aircraft parking and tiedowns, hangar space, and shuttle service to Oshkosh.
EAA AirVenture is the world’s largest airshow, but fly-ins don’t need to be big to be fun. Some smaller gems are located just a short flight from Green Bay, including Door County’s annual Washington Island Fly-In Fish Boil and the weekly Friday lunch at Central County Airport in Iola. Fly-ins and food go hand-in-hand.
Pilots can reserve one of Jet Air Group’s Cessna, Piper, or Cirrus rental aircraft for fun trips to aviation events. Rental checkouts are required, and our flight instructors would be happy to schedule one with you. Just give us a call at 920-494-2669 and get ready for all the pancakes you can eat. What are some of your favorite fly-ins?
