Part 141 commercial pilot training is now available at Jet Air Group’s flight schools in Green Bay and Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

This new addition to Jet Air’s Part 141 curriculum gives students a streamlined path from zero time to an entry-level commercial flying job. Students can now earn their private pilot certificate, instrument rating, and commercial pilot certificate under Part 141.

“Part 141″ refers to a chapter of the FAA Aviation Regulations. A Part 141 flight training program is a more structured, focused method of flight training that requires fewer training hours. This type of training is especially suited to career-bound or accelerated students, but is open to anyone.

For a flight school to become Part 141-certified, it must earn FAA approval for its curriculum, meet minimum pass rates, and pass regular FAA audits. FAA oversight helps ensure high-quality training.

Jet Air’s Part 141 commercial pilot course uses professional training materials designed by King Schools for Cessna Pilot Centers. A convenient online course supplements in-person training.

Traditional Part 61 training programs, which are more flexible and customized, are also available at Jet Air. Students may choose which route to pursue. Students also have the option of pursuing an aviation minor through Jet Air’s partner Lakeland College.

For more information on flight training at Jet Air Group, visit www.jetairgroup.com/flight-school or call (920) 494-2669.

Jet Air Group has flight school locations in Green Bay and Sheboygan, Wisconsin offering basic through advanced flight training, aircraft rental, FAA testing, books and pilot supplies, aviation medical exams, and flight simulation. Jet Air is a Cessna Pilot Center and Cirrus Training Center. For more information, please call (920) 494-2669 in Green Bay or (920) 467-2303 in Sheboygan.

WICHITA, Kan., Jun. 14, 2013 – Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, is once again offering a unique internship experience – the Discover Flying Challenge – for six aviation students from a field of applicants for a summer-long excursion across the United States. This year, Cessna has partnered with five not-for-profit organizations as part of this summer’s Discover Flying Challenge to bring awareness to their charitable efforts.

This year Cessna selected five charities to be featured during the program in an effort to raise awareness for causes aligning with the company’s charitable investments: American Red Cross, Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles, Special Olympics, United Way and Veterans Airlift Command. The community partners’ logos are displayed on the program’s six Cessna 172 Skyhawk aircraft, and pilots plan to attend community partner events, such as Special Olympics summer games and EAA Young Eagles rallies. To engage aviation enthusiasts and community partners’ supporters alike, the six pilot interns will use social media to share their experiences with flight and philanthropy throughout the summer. The charity with the most social engagement will receive a $25,000 donation from Cessna.

“Cessna is passionate about making airplanes and promoting aviation pride. Pairing this passion with an opportunity to give back to worthy organizations is at the heart of our heritage as Cessnans,” said Jodi Noah, senior vice president of single engine and turboprop aircraft. “We selected our Discover Flying Challenge charities based on Cessna’s specific areas of community involvement: human services, education, quality of life and promotion of aviation, and are excited to give them another platform from which their inspiring stories can be shared.”

“Discover Flying Challenge provides such an incredible opportunity for us to share our passion for flying with the world,” said Lawrence Howard, one of this summer’s Discover Flying Challenge pilots, and recent graduate from Hampton University this spring. “I’m able to translate my degree in Aviation Flight Education to a real world experience by getting to work for an aviation giant like Cessna and be paid to pilot a Skyhawk from air shows to fly-ins. I am lookingforward to speaking with people about the great efforts of our charity partners while at the same time hang out with aviation fans. It’s the best of both worlds.”

The Discover Flying Challenge will commence on Saturday, June 15 at the Strother Field Industrial Park in Winfield, Kan., aboard six customized Cessna 172 Skyhawk aircraft. The Discover Flying Challenge pilots will attend a Cessna 172 fly-in at the field, and then depart for their respective regions around the U.S. The pilots are assigned social media accounts through Cessna’s Facebook and Twitter pages, and will virtually document their journey. The students are challenged to make their social media content on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube both creative and engaging, as they will be competing against each other for various prizes at the conclusion of the program.

The pilots’ progress and scheduled events can be followed through SocialFlight, a website which provides a mobile app providing detailed pilot itineraries and mapped appearances. SocialFlight provides a free mobile app available at the iTunes App Store for the iPhone and iPad. It is also available on the Google Play Store for Android Phones and Tablets. The app can also be used on BlackBerry devices. Learn more about SocialFlight at www.socialflight.com.

Visit cessnadfc.com for biographies of Discovery Flying Challenge pilots.

Bruce lives in Shawano, where he is taking instrument training in a Piper Archer. He was a student in Jet Air’s recent instrument ground school. He says the main reason he is pursuing an instrument rating is the added level of safety it offers, and safety is very important to him and his family. His checkride is scheduled for this upcoming week.

Ice Shield is currently available for over 75 aircraft models representing 85% of the general aviation fleet.

In 1998, Ice Shield de-icers were introduced to the general aviation market. Though it was a new name to the marketplace, these products were developed from a deep background in de-icing technology. Emphasizing quality, value, service and selection, Ice Shield has become the preferred brand for aircraft de-icers. Ice Shield wing de-icers have accumulated over 18 million flight hours. These wing de-icers feature Edge Guard™ technology, laboratory proven to increase service life up to 60 percent. Ice Shield is available in a wide variety of wing and propeller boots for most piston and turboprop aircraft.

10 Reasons to Replace your Wing Boots:

B/E Aerospace recommends replacing wing de-icing systems if any of the following conditions are met.

Foreign Object Damage (FOD)

Surface Erosion

Cut, tear, or rupture exceeding 3/4″ in length

Cut, tear, or rupture within 1/8″ of a stitch line

Cut, tear, or rupture that extends into the fabric stitch line

De-bonding/swelling due to leaky integral fuel tank (wet wing)

Excessive repairs

Pinholes in boot at leading edge

Bulge or stitch line failure

Improper maintenance

(Check airframe manufacturer’s manuals as well, which supersede these guidelines in any case where the two do not agree).

ADS-B is an acronym for “Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast.” It is a critical component of the FAA’s NextGen airspace system. The technology can provide in-cockpit traffic, weather, and terrain information, as well as flight information such as TFRs and NOTAMs.

Sporty’s Pilot Shop explains it all in this new hour-long webinar about ADS-B technology:

On May 21, Cirrus Aircraft announced that the company delivered 51 aircraft in the first quarter of 2013, up 14 percent compared to the same period in 2012. The overall piston-powered aircraft market has shown about a 4 percent increase from 2012.

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) released the industry’s first quarter shipment and billings summary earlier this month. “We are very pleased to see a shift to the positive for the GA airplanes, which extends across all airplane segments” said Pete Bunce, GAMA’s President and CEO.

“Cirrus Aircraft customers are showing an enthusiasm for our new airplanes, especially Generation 5, that we have not seen in quite a while”, says Patrick Waddick, President and COO of Cirrus Aircraft. “We are still early in the year, but the initial market response validates our commitment to innovation and to offering Cirrus owners and operators the most value of any aircraft available today.”

Read more: Press Release – CirrusAircraft.com

The most talked-about new feature in the Generation 5 Cirrus is the 200-pound gross weight increase. Other standard features include faster flap extension and parachute deployment speeds, a Garmin GFC 700 autopilot, highly accurate fuel sender units, 60/40 Flex Seating, ADS-B, and wheel pants with access doors.

You can read more about new features, and how Cirrus achieved them, in FLYING Magazine:

Through a series of smart and complicated engineering decisions, Cirrus found a way to increase the gross weight of the airplane by 200 pounds, to 3,600 pounds.

In order to accomplish this, Cirrus had to do a number of things to the airplane that were complex, expensive and time-consuming. (Do those three things ever not go hand in hand when it comes to certification?) The company’s goal was to add some capabilities to the SR22 that owners have been asking for from day one.
